Aged Care
May Shaw Health Centre is accredited to offer both low and high care. We also offer "Ageing in Place" which ensures that all residents are provided with the appropriate level of care according to their needs. For most residents, this removes the need to relocate to another area within the facility as their nursing care needs increase.
Our low-level and high-level care areas provide responsive and adaptable high quality care by ensuring the staff are dedicated and with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to meet the care needs of all our residents.
We employ Registered Nurses across all shifts, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to support this high quality care and to oversee safe administration of medication and enable nursing duties to be carried out appropriately.
LOW LEVEL CARE
All residents entering low care, except fully supported residents are required to pay a refundable Accommodation Bond. The Accommodation Bond assists May Shaw Health Centre with the provision of high quality services and is refundable (less retention amounts) on leaving our facility. The Bond is fully guaranteed by the Australian Government.
The Bond is set according to the residents total assets. A financial statement can be completed with each application for residency or Centrelink can undertake an assets test. A resident can only be assessed for an Accommodation Bond if their total assets exceed a certain amount. The family home will be ignored as an asset if a spouse still lives in the home, and in certain other circumstances.
There are three types of payment methods for the bond. It may be paid as a lump sum, by monthly periodic payment or as a combination of the two methods.
A bond paid by lump sum is generally payable within six months of admission, but interest is charged on the balance outstanding from the date of permanent admission.
The bond is refundable shortly after discharge. A small retention is kept from the bond for each month of residency, for a maximum of sixty months.
All residents will be asked to contribute to their costs with a basic care fee which is a percentage of the Age Pension.
The Department of Ageing will determine whether a resident pays an additional income tested fee. This fee is calculated from information obtained from Centrelink or Veterans' Affairs.
